ABOUT MAHATMA HOUSE
Super sleek and sexy, but fabulously comfortable, Mahatma House would not be out of place in one of the world’s fashion capitals, yet this impressive five-bedroom villa is located in the beautiful and very traditional Balinese village of Seseh, just a stone’s throw from the beach.
Mahatma House is owned by a Spanish model and a fashion designer and their sense of style and sophistication shines throughout the villa, from the fabulous black interiors to the incredible array of Asian antiquities.
There are seemingly endless opportunities for relaxation at Mahatma House: recline under a parasol on a daybed fit for royalty; sip sunset cocktails on the party-size sofas by the pool; chill out in the comfortable garden balé with friends, or simply take a moment to rest and rejuvenate in peace on your private bedroom balcony.
With its enormous kitchen and dining space and its open-sided living areas looking out across the magnificent tropical gardens and swimming pool, Mahatma House is an ideal venue for social events, whether it be a wedding, milestone celebration or informal and relaxed get-together with friends or family. And the impeccably trained staff, including an experienced villa manager and restaurant-trained private chef, will ensure that every moment of your stay is absolutely faultless.
Only a few metres from the villa lies Seseh’s glistening volcanic-sand beach, where surf beckons and rock pools fascinate. Watch the local fisherman haul in their daily catch, and the village children play football at dusk. Or wander to the local temple where enchanting ceremonies are performed daily against the ocean backdrop. For adventure further afield, hire Mahatma’s car and driver; within twenty minutes you could be dining at one of Seminyak’s world class restaurants, shopping at a très chic boutique, or teeing off on the world renowned Nirwana Bali Golf course.
Surrounded by a lush tropical garden bordering an expanse of manicured lawn, Mahatma House boasts three pavilions symmetrically arranged around an emerald green swimming pool that forms the centerpiece of this villa.
The grey-black river stone featured throughout the villa – lining the swimming pool and forming a backdrop to the two feature walls that cascade with water – enliven the senses and create a synergy with the natural environment, harmonizing with the dark, glistening volcanic sands of Seseh Beach. The two master bedrooms boast spectacular views over the ocean as it stretches endlessly towards the horizon, whilst the suites and corner room are surrounded by the verdant garden, fragrant with frangipani.
Guests can relax on the couches in the entertainment area and watch TV or curl up with a book. If culinary delights are for you then take a seat at the dining table, with magnificent views over the pool and garden, and observe the master chef in action.
All five bedrooms at Mahatma House feature the villa’s signature sleek black décor, are furnished with king-size beds, and equipped with ensuite bathrooms and air conditioning.
Sunrise and Sunset suites (master bedrooms) - Upstairs in Mahatma’s main pavilion are two identical master bedrooms – one facing east and the other west – appropriately named the Sunrise and Sunset suites. Sunrise looks out over a Hindu temple on the seafront whilst Sunset has wonderfully expansive views over the ocean. The rooms feature iPod docking stations, televisions, DVD players and lounge areas with enormous windows that can open to let in the balmy sea breezes. Daybeds on each of the rooms’ private balconies beckon for intimate moments of relaxation.
Corner bedroom - The Corner room, below the Sunset suite has an ensuite with shower and access to its own private garden.
Sunrise and Sunset pavilions - Located at the far side of the garden, and separated by a decadent alfresco lounge area, are the mirror-image Sunrise and Sunset pavilions. Romanesque sunken baths luxuriate within the bedrooms while the ensuite bathrooms are fitted with a shower. Covered terraces embellished with artefacts and statues from around Indonesia offer views over the pool and garden and feature sofas built into the stonework.
Indoor living - At the heart of Mahatma House’s main pavilion is an enormous light-filled, open-plan living room furnished with an oversized daybed strewn with Chinese style silk cushions, and comfortable rattan chairs upon which to recline with a book or take an afternoon nap. This magnificent space overlooks the garden and pool and is connected to the kitchen by a rustic wooden bridge over a fishpond. The kitchen, finished in super-stylish black terrazzo and equipped with fabulous matt black crockery, features Chinese cabinets and a wall display of traditional Javanese metal cracker jars. Adjacent to the kitchen, the open-sided dining room seats ten and overlooks the garden, pool and balé. The entertainment area is located to the other side of the living pavilion and is furnished with comfortable sofas on which to lay back and watch the 42-inch flat-screen television, discreetly housed within a chic black oriental-style cabinet. Behind the entertainment area, and looking out towards the garden, pool and pavilions, is a low Japanese-style table with seating for six.
Outdoor living - Mahatma House has a wonderful selection of private outdoor living areas as well as plentiful spaces for groups to gather and socialise. Laze under a parasol on one of the four oversized daybeds surrounding the pool; escape from the midday heat in the comfortable balé, wrapped in the garden’s lush greenery and shaded by trees; enjoy a cocktail or two at the villa’s piece de resistance, the poolside lounge. DINING AT MAHATMA HOUSE
Mahatma House’s in-house chef was trained at Bali’s landmark Warisan restaurant and guests will be in for an absolute treat with his refined and delicious creations that are always immaculately presented. Whether it be scrambled eggs for breakfast, a tuna Carpaccio for lunch or an incredible pannacotta with strawberry salsa for dessert, the meal is sure to dazzle. The chef always uses the finest and freshest ingredients, many of which come from the villa’s vegetable garden.
It is recommended that guests meet with the villa manager and chef at the start of their stay to discuss food likes and dislikes (or even food cravings), special dietary needs and preferred meal schedules. Suggestion menus are available at the villa for breakfast, lunch and dinner, but to allow the chef time to prepare and provision, selections should be made in advance (ideally 24 hours).
Groceries and beverages are charged at market price (plus a 20% handling fee which is subject to service and tax at the prevailing rate). Guests will be requested to provide grocery money in advance. The staff will do the shopping for you and keep the receipts for your reference.
FAMILIES AT MAHATMA HOUSE
The family friendly advantages of a villa holiday are many, including access to your own private facilities and the freedom to use them whenever you want. Knowing that the kids can run around happily, independently and safely, without you having to worry about other guests, is a real plus – and one that means parents are certain to have a more relaxed holiday too.
Mahatma House is a great villa for families and kids will love the wide open garden space – perfect for a game of tag or football, and having Seseh beach on the doorstep, where, even if the water isn’t great for swimming, there’s always something exciting going on. Do keep an eye on toddlers around the fish ponds and water features at the villa though.
The team of friendly staff at Mahatma House will make children feel as welcome as adults, and having these willing helpers on hand gives guests plenty of flexibility and freedom to do their own exploring beyond the villa grounds (full-time babysitting incurs a small extra cost).
Although the equipped kitchen allows you to prepare meals for fussy eaters or babies with ease, staff will happily to do this for you – just talk through your requirements and meal schedules with the villa manager or chef and they will take care of the rest. Don’t worry about packing all that cumbersome kids’ equipment for your stay. Just let us know what you need, and anything we don’t have in-house (villa facilities include a baby cot and a highchair) we can hire on your behalf.
SPA AT MAHATMA HOUSE
Feel like a body scrub or massage? Just ask our staff to bring the spa to you! We can recommend deluxe treatments carried out in the privacy of your own villa by fully trained therapists from a reputable local spa (extra charges will apply). Here’s a sample of what’s on the menu:
Balinese massage - Release built up tension with a traditional Balinese massage. Using a combination of gentle stretches, acupressure and aromatherapy oils to stimulate the flow of blood, oxygen and energy around your body, you will feel totally relaxed in no time.
Body scrub - A full body scrub will exfoliate and hydrate your skin leaving it soft and smooth. A rejuvenating scrub combines an abrasive material such as salt, coffee, rice bran or pecan hulls with essential oils to remove any impurities and make your skin glow.
Foot reflexology - Foot reflexology is a natural healing art based on the principle that there are reflexes in the feet which correspond to every part of the body. Through application of pressure on these reflexes tension is relieved and circulation improved leaving you feeling balanced.
Manicure and pedicure - Our hands and feet work hard for us every day but rarely get the attention they deserve. Treat them to a manicure or pedicure, which usually comes with the added bonus of a quick hand or foot massage.
